District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Phek had organised an orientation programme for Phek District Para Legal Volunteers at the DCs conference hall, Phek town as an extended measure of preparation and formulation for the mass door to door campaign held in November.
Civil Judge and secretary of Phek DLSA Ajong Imchen, introduced the objective behind the campaign. Ajong stated that the goal was to spread the message of access to justice for all at the broadest level and therefore the PLVs were to reach out to the weaker and marginalised sections of the society.
Panel lawyer of Phek DLSA Vethothi vero, as resource person spoke on the roles and function of PLVs. Vero also highlighted on various topic and areas such as the domestic violence act relating to meaning of domestic violence, maintenance of the child and wife by the husband during judicial separation and divorce and absolute right of women under section 498 of IPC; POCSO Act relating to rape of a child and how to deal and treat with the rape victim in the court of law; Old age pension scheme by stating that any person who is and above 60 years of age is entitled all the benefit under the scheme; environment protection act; Victims compensation Act, who to approach and how to claim the compensation and the Right to information act.
The endeavour during the mass campaign was for the PLVs deployed in the respective district to reach out to the maximum number of household in the country in order to make the people aware about legal services institutions and availability of legal services, free legal services that can be availed and how legal services could facilitate the people to get their entitlements under various laws and schemes of the Governments.
Altogether 36 PLVs registered under Phek District Legal services Authority attended the program.
