Naga People’s Front (NPF) has welcomed the endorsement of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) legislature party, the ruling coalition of Nagaland, for chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü to become a member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. According to NPF spokesperson, Achumbemo Kikon, the resolution was introduced by chairman, DAN T.R. Zeliang at the DAN Legislators meeting held on May 26. The DAN put on record the magnanimity shown by those legislators, who offered to vacate their seats for Dr. Shürhozelie. NPF also appreciated the sacrifice made by sitting parliamentary secretary, Khriehu Liezietsü in vacating his seat to pave way for his father to get elected as member of the Assembly.
The party also appealed to electorates of 10 Northern Angami –I, to let Dr. Shürhozelie return uncontested. The NPF further appealed to all individuals and political parties to extend co-operation for the smooth conduct of the by-election. It also urged upon the Election Commission of India to conduct the by-election at the earliest. Further, NPF acknowledged the stand of the NPF-led-DAN government that ‘’in the event of an honourable and amicable solution is arrived at out of the ongoing peace process vis-à-vis political talks, the present government will pave way for a smooth transition for the new dispensation to take over’’.
