Nagaland Governor P.B.Acharya reiterated that in a democratic country everyone has a role to play and decried the culture of over dependency on government as it would impair society’s progress.
Speaking on the occasion of the programme for the adoption of Kacharigaon primary school by Innerwheel Club Dimapur, the Governor lauded their initiative as it was the need of the hour. He further requested the club members to continue in utilizing their capacity for society.
“The strength of the chain lies on the weakest link” Acharya said.
Innerwheel Club Dimapur has adopted two government schools under its wings-the first being Government Middle School at Zeliangrong village and the second at Government Primary School, Kacharigaon.
He pointed out that government schools had students who were mostly from poor families. He underscored the situation that the poor people have been facing in a democratic country which was not their creation but through deficiency and default.
“There is no end to strengthen a family which requires to be empowered and that unless the poorest of the poor is uplifted, there is no necessity in any sense of the term to strengthen the poor” he said.
Pointing out that school education as having the highest expenditure , he said that government teachers receive higher salary comparing private school teachers but the performance of the private institutions was better than in the recent HSLC and HSSLC exams.
Acharya lamented that there was something not right in government institutions and asked teachers to start focussing, participating and create a thought to contribute one’s talent to uplift the society.
He also encouraged the teachers to strengthen the moral values of the children by creating a relationship, knowing and understanding the family background.
Acharya further spoke on the importance of mid-day meal and the various facilities that will help the students have healthy body and healthy mind.
Later, chief guest inaugurated the school and participated in planting tree within the school premises.
The programme was also attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome. The school was inaugurated under the Presidentship of Dr Khushboo Agarwal and club literacy Chairman Asha Sharma.
It may be mentioned that Innerwheel club of Dimapur had been working on its literacy mission. The club has adopted two government schools under its wings namely
Government Middle School (GMS) at Zeliangrong village and Government Primary School (GPS) at Kacharigaon.
The club provided fencing in school compound, repaired toilets, hand washing station with running water, renovated and painted the school building, set up a library for students , sports equipments, and shoes-socks for children.
The club aims to make Government schools more equipped to decrease the drop-out rates.
The club has multiple projects on literacy and has process of setting up an adult literacy centre, sponsored 14 girls under asha kiran and had got sponsorship for 10 girls from the governor under the scheme “Beti bachao beti padhao” and had been actively helping out in the orphanages for education.
The club will continue to be associated with the school providing them more support as and when required and is planning to adopt more schools in future with the vision “ Every school in a happy school and every child a literate.”
