Following a joint visit by Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO), Tuensang Unit and the Chang Students Union (CSU), Tuensang Town, to the Civil Hospital Tuensang from May 24 to 26,2017 the two bodies have issued a joint appeal to the department responsible and authorities to redress myriad grievances at the earliest failing which the public of the town would be compelled to make their move and the Union was prepared to take further steps if the demands were not fulfilled.
According to a joint statement by CSUTT president Bhukyim and ENWO Tuensang unit president Bahla, the condition of the hospital has been degenerating instead of improving. The neglect was such that it had even caused death in some particular case due to “poor maintenance”. The two bodies were however grateful to the doctors and nurses for their “selfless sacrifices” while discharging their duties.
In their list of demands, the two bodies have stated that besides unavailability of required medical specialists, the hospital also does not have even an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and managing with broken machineries.
The shambles in infrastructure and non availability of required doctors has compelled patients to travel beyond Tuensang even for minor surgery or other health issues.
The demands include: (1) permanent posting of at least two Gynaecologists to Tuensang (2) posting of Paediatrician, Anaesthetist and Eye Specialist (3) replacement of X-ray and Ultra Sound machines (4) repair of ambulance vehicle for emergencies (for which clarification and justification was reportedly sought by the departmental authority (5) posting of doctor specialised in treatment of tuberculosis.
The two bodies reminded that the above demands are not new but which had been raised by ENWO Tuensang Unit on September 24,2016.
Despite lapse of eight(8) months since, the department authorities have not responded and instead “abandoned” the hospital and left public to face untold hardship. Despite the hardships faced by the public, CSUTT and ENWO Tuensand Unit maintained they have shown “resentment”.
However in the present situation, they demanded that the government and the higher authorities of the department take step if not , both including public would be compelled to act.
