Reacting to a recent statement made by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju that NSCN (K) cadres would be rehabilitated if they surrendered, the Konyak Union (KU) said it wondered as to how Rijiju could “settle the seven decade old Naga struggles through a so called ‘rehabilitation package’?”
In a press note, KU president, S. Manlip Konyak, and general secretary, M. Honang Konyak, said such “undermining expression of thought” would only create more confusion and further provocation. KU opined that both Naypyidaw and New Delhi should sincerely understand the cultural, social, political and territorial sentiments and aspiration of the Nagas so as to culminate into a peaceful and early solution.
Further, the union while “firmly upholding” its stance for peaceful and early solution refuted the June 10 press statement of Rijiju wherein he had purportedly stated that “Late Shangnyu Shangwang Khaplang had died at Kachin State (Myanmar)”.
KU said “such unfounded statement” was indeed a “shocker”, saying how could Union MoS for Home and an Arunachali could be “so ignorant about the territorial extension and existence of its immediate neighbour?”
The union clarified that Kachin was a tribe/state that occupied the North-eastern frontier of Myanmar and shared its Western boundaries with the Nagas, who occupied the North-western frontier under the Union of Myanmar. Since time immemorial, KU said Kachin and Nagas had co-existed as a good neighbour, adding that there existed no territorial confusion but mutual respect for each other’s sentiments, aspiration and determination.
The union asserted Takka was a Naga town under Sagaing division, which it said was undeniable Naga Territory since time immemorial. KU appealed to all responsible to refrain from “unfounded remarks.”
Further, the Konyak Union (KU) also slammed the Republic TV for describing as “shocker” the Nagaland chief minister’s condolence message on the demise of NSCN/GPRN president SS Khaplang. KU said it was important for a responsible leader to express his grief during such hour. “Such act of understandable relation was adhered and executed by the successive chief ministers of Nagaland where lesser bloodshed and violence had occurred,” said KU.
KU sought to ascertain whether the Republic TV could unearth the truth as to how the “doctored policies” had lead to violence and the brand “terrorist” had surfaced? It also conveyed that Republic TV should learn to appreciate that “the history of Nagas is unique and it cannot be bargained”.
Meanwhile, KU has lauded Shangnyu village for organising memorial service in respect of late SS Khaplang, saying such expression and infliction of sentiments showed that Naga family was spread far beyond an imaginary line.
