Nagaland governor, PB Acharya, on Saturday has called upon Bharat Scouts and Guides (BS&G) to become ambassadors of peace and progress. He expressed joy that the BS&G movement was playing an active and important role in shaping the character of the youth in Nagaland.
Speaking at the Nagaland State Bharat scouts and guides (NSBSG) award ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan, the governor, who is also the chief patron of NSBSG, said that the Scouts and Guides contribute to strengthening communal harmony, brotherhood and secularism so the state marched ahead on the path of progress and prosperity in peaceful manner.
“It is a very efficient voluntary movement in nature that has purposefully engaged in building of an enlightened and progressive society,” said the governor.
According to an official bulletin, Acharya also maintained that scouts and guides movement was providing the youth with the physical, mental, intellectual, and moral values to face the challenges of life ahead.
Through their participation in the BS&G movement, the governor said they should also realise their own intellectual, physical and spiritual potential.
As the next generation, the governor said they would be shouldering responsibility of creating a more dynamic society, a stronger nation and a better world.
The governor, who felicitated Rashtrapati Awardees for the 2015-2016 and gave away Rajya Puraskar 2017 certificates at the ceremony, congratulated the movement and all the award winners for their commendable work.
Schools that were awarded the Rajya Puraskar 2017 certificates included: Vidya Bhavan school Dimapur (10 guides and four scouts), Highland hall school Dimapur (four guides), Assisi school (12 guides and three scouts), Naga united Govt. High school (four guides), Good Shepherd higher secondary Kiphire (three guides), Loyola Higher secondary Kiphire (three guides and one scout), El-Beth High school Kiphire (one scout), Government higher secondary school (one scout), Eastern Academy school Dimapur (four scouts), Mezhur higher secondary school (four guides and three scouts), Chandmari Higher Secondary school (five guides), Coraggio School Kohima (one scout), Little flower higher secondary school (six guides), Baptist high school Kohima (six guides).
Altogether, 16 scouts and guides received the Rashtrapati Awardees for the year 2015-2016.
State chief commissioner NSBSG, Atou Mezur, highlighted the rigorous training that the scouts and guides go through to receive the various awards.
Principle director school education and vice president NSBSG, Smita Sarangi, chaired the programme, and state organising commissioner (guide) & NSBSG, Vimezhonu Tetso compère d the programme. Special song was presented by Mezhur Higher Secondary School Kohima and joint director school education & state secretary NSBSG, Chubanungla, proposed vote of thanks.
Bharat Scouts & Guides is a voluntary non-political, educational movement for young people, open to all without distinction of origin, race or creed, in accordance with the purpose, principles and methods conceived by the founder Lord Baden Powell in 1907.
The purpose of the movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical intellectuals, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of local, national and international communities.
