Nagaland chief minister, T.R. Zeliang on Saturday assured that the construction of bridges over Chathe river and Dhansiri river at Nagarjan (Kuda) would commence within a week’s time.
The chief minister, accompanied by minster of Road & Bridges Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, Power minister, Kipili Sangtam and parliamentary secretary Art & Culture, Eshak Konyak visited the two sites on Saturday along with host of officials.
Briefing the media persons here at his private residence, Zeliang pointed out that since the work orders and funds for construction of the two bridges were already allotted and sanctioned, there was no reason why works should not start at the earliest.
Zeliang has therefore asked the contractor to start the work immediately without delay.
During inspection of the newly built bamboo bridge over Chathe river near at Eralibill connecting Niuland and Kuhuboto sub-division, the chief minister suggested widening of both the entry points for convenience of light vehicles to ply over the bridge.
Zeliang also remarked that the bamboo bridge over Chathe River was temporarily serving the purpose for the public, particularly school going children. It may be mentioned that both the bridges were constructed with fund provided by the National Disaster Response Fund.
With regard to the bridge at Nagarjan (Kuda), Zeliang informed that the decades old dilapidated bridge needed to be dismantled first in order to construct a new one.
He however lamented that even though the government had planned to preserve the 90-year old bridge built by the British as heritage, there was no alternative to build a new bridge in the area due to paucity of funds to purchase land.
