
Private Schools Teachers’ Association Pungro (PSTAP) in collaboration with Kripa Foundation Nagaland organized a seminar on HIV and AIDs and substance abuse awareness on Saturday at Government Higher Secondary School, hall Pungro under the theme “give sight and save life”.
The seminar was held with Public Forum Pungro Sub-Division (PFPSD), president, S. Kiusumew, as guest of honour and Kripa Foundation, program coordinator, Ketho Angami, as the resource person.
In a press release, PSTAP president, Khonvamong, stated that S. Kiusumew, spoke on the importance of understanding such health and social issues so as to make responsible decisions.
He also stressed on the need of all curricular activities and urged upon the students to excel not only in their studies but also to inculcate responsible behaviour and to become productive member of the society.
Ketho Angami deliberated on HIV and AIDs and substance abuse and gave a brief presentation on HIV & AIDS in Nagaland which was considered as high prevalence rate through the transmission mode of unsafe sex.
He mentioned that AIDS disease was not curable but manageable inspite of not having a vaccination till date. Angami highlighted on the medication called Anti Retro Viral (ARV) which was a lifelong treatment but helped to suppress and contain the virus.
On the topic of substance abuse, he lamented that some youngsters were into such drugs like tobacco, nicotine, alcohol which if taken frequently would probably lead to abuse of other harder substance in the coming years.
The programme was attended by prominent figures from the Public Forum Pungro Sub-Division, teachers, youths and students numbering more than 300 participants from LFS, Mt. Saramati School, Christian High School Pungro, Mt. Horeb Baptist School and Governemt Higher Secondary School Pungro.
The programme started with in invocation by UPC Pastor, Chipong and welcome address by PSTAP president, Khonyamong, special items were also presented from various Private schools, vote of thanks by was delivered by PSTAP convener, Tsuthong, benediction by Rev. Fr. Ashikho Abraham and the programme was chaired by Pentsumong.
