First “national election quiz” was conducted in Kohima on December 15 as per directives of election commission of India.
According to chief electoral officer, Abhijit Sinha, teams of seven districts participated where Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School emerged as the winners of the competition.
While addressing the gathering, Sinha pointed out that the primary objective of the commission was to engage the young students in the age group of 14-17 years, who he said were the “future voter”. He added that the competition served as a self-learning exercise about the electoral process so as to build an informed electorate in the future.
He also congratulated the winners, Merio N. Ngullie (class 12), Kekhriese Yhoshu (Class 11) of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, who would be representing the state in the semi-final which will be conducted in New Delhi in January. He also thanked all the other participants and encouraged them to work harder for similar competitions and to disseminate the message on increasing qualitative participation in ethical terms.
