Legal Literacy club opened in the Kiphire

District legal service authority (DLSA) organised a programme on the opening of Legal Literacy Club (LLC) in Kiphire district with Guwahati High Court Judge, Justice Michael Zothankhuma, as chief guest, at the conference hall of the Deputy commissioner Kiphire on February 17.
Speaking at the programme, Justice Michael said that knowledge was a very powerful weapon and asked students to use it for the right purposes. He also asked the students to know their fundamental rights guaranteed in the constitution, adding that if they do not know their rights they would feel hesitant in life and would not be able to move forward with confidence. 
Stressing on the importance of legal rights and appealing to the students, Justice Michael said that the students were lucky to have the programme organized in the district as well as their schools because many do not get such opportunities. He also added that programmes like these educate students on rights like minimum wages rights. He expressed hope that with the clinic and more sessions in the schools, legal awareness and awareness of rights will increase.  
NJS Registrar Guwahati High court, Y. Longkumer who spoke on the occasion also appealed the students to grab this opportunity and advised the students to read more books. 
District Education Officer, D. Panda who also spoke on the occasion appreciated the DLSA for bringing activities to the district by conducting awareness programmes, establishing legal clubs and for various other legal related activities in the district. Panda also appreciated the efforts the chief judicial magistrate for her part in the initiation of these.
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mezivolu T. Therieh NJS and secretary Kiphire DLSA while chairing the program, expressed gratitude to justice Michael Zothankhuma and said that the problem in the district was lack of awareness of legal awareness and she expressed hope that the student community will take the legal service vision forward to the community and society. 
She also added that para legal volunteers (PLVs) and panel lawyers will visit the schools, interact with and conduct seminars with the students.
Meanwhile, APP & Ex. Member DLSA Kiphire, Sentila Aier acknowledged the visiting officials. Altogether five schools – government higher secondary school Kiphire, Agape school, Saramati school, Christian high school Pungro and government higher secondary school Pungro were given computers sets by the department.
