Awareness Seminar on JFMC held in Wokha

Forest Development Agency, Wokha organized a one day awareness seminar for Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) & Frontline Personnel on National Afforestation Programme & Role of JFMC at Forest Colony Community Hall, Wokha on April 13.
According to DIPR, DFO Wokha, Zuthunglo Patton (IFS) while giving a brief on the salient features of National Afforestation Programme (NAP) said, the purpose of organizing the event was to sensitize the community on the rehabilitation of degraded forests and other areas by institutionalizing participatory forest management and supplementing livelihood improvement. She also talked about the active participation of villagers in creation, management and protection plantation to achieve ecological needs with sustainable productivity of wood and other NTFP.
Patton also apprised the JFMC about proper maintenance of registers for membership, cash nursery and assets in the interests of transparency. Alikhum JFMC and Longsachung JFMC were awarded the Best Performing Joint Forest Management Committee, while Merapani and Wokha Range were awarded the Best Performing Ranges respectively by the DFO.
RFO, Merapani, Punseni Khing highlighting the role of JFMC said, villagers should actively participate in protection of forests, buffering layers, creating awareness, improving rapport between people and the department, timely information of emergencies to the department, quality execution of work and social awakening.
