ICAR conducts awareness programme

An awareness programme on “Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies for Agriculture and Allied Sectors under Climate Change in Nagaland” was organised by Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa, ICAR research complex for NEH Region, Jharnapani, Medziphema.
The programme was organised on April 4 and April 6 at Singrijan village and Vihokhu village respectively under Dimapur district and on April 10 at Samzuiram village under Peren district.
A press release from ICAR research complex for NEH region Nagaland Centre, stated that altogether 108 persons participated in the programme.
In the programmes, technical officer, AMFU Jharnapani, ICAR Nagaland Centre, Imtisenla Walling apprised the participants on the role of agromet advisory and its usefulness and how its usage could have an impact on their production in the changing climate scenario. She apprised the farmers on judicious use of water and also recommended mixed cropping and crop rotation. 
ACTO animal science, Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, educated the farmers on different effects of climate variations on livestock production and mitigation strategies.
ACTO, plant protection, Lireni Kikon, spoke on pest and disease management with the changing climate scenario and discussed the symptomatic diagnosis of disease infection and integrated management. 
ACTO plant breeding, Dr. Patu K. Zeliang, discussed in length organic farming for sustainable agriculture. She emphasized on the use of organic waste, animal waste along with beneficial microbes in an eco-friendly environment without the use of synthetic inputs. Scientist (Horticulture), Dr. Azeze, spoke about the impact of climate change on horticulture crops. 
Dealing on the topic, Dr. Azeze explained the different adaptation measures to be undertaken like change in sowing/planting dates, irrigation and drainage systems and crop residue incorporation.
