State Higher & Technical Education (H&TE) minister, Temjen Imna Along Longkumer, has reportedly assured the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) that all possible initiatives would be taken to acquire additional seats for MBBS and BDS courses.
In a press release, ANCSU general secretary, Vimeyiekho Vitso, and assistant general secretary, Imnameren N Jamir, said the minister gave the ANCSU members this assurance when they met him at his official residence on June 7, 2018.
ANCSU said the minister also highlighted the initiatives of the department and government with regard to the representation of ANCSU for acquiring additional seats for MBBS & BDS.
ANCSU also appealed to the minister to acquiring seats under NEC, saying in the past years the department and government failed to meet the needs of the aspiring MBBS & BDS students.
Further, while admitting that measures were being taken for the current session in respect to ANCSU representation, the minister assured that the government would arrange additional seats in the next session. He also was in favour of asking special quota for Nagaland towards the requirement of MBBS & BDS seats.
ANCSU said the meeting also discussed Kohima Science College land encroachment issue, PMS scholarship issue and other related matters concerning the student community.
Meanwhile, the minister highlighted some of the state government’s initiatives in implementing biometric attendances for the staffs in colleges from this year and for students in the following year, proper drinking water facilities, library enhancement, comprehensive access to all subjects and sponsorship of 50 students by ALS for aspiring civil service candidates.
