Department of Labour Kiphire organised an awareness campaign on Employee’s State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) of India on June 14 at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall. A press release from the department stated that commissioner & secretary, Anenla Satu, highlighted the benefits of the scheme and said the the ESIS scheme was financed by contributions from employers and employees.
Satu said the rate of contribution by employer is 4.75 percent of the wages payable to employees whereas the employee’s contribution is at the rate of 1.75 percent of the wages payable to an employee.
She said the labour department has to check what security was being provided to employees by the employer and also urged the employees to be aware of their rights.
Commissioner, Department of Labour, L. Nungshiyangei Aier, also stated that government of India has directed that all districts in India be covered under ESIS. According to him, cooperation between employers and employees was vital for the implementation of the scheme.
Nodal Officer for ESIS, Avile Vetso, elaborating the details of the scheme, stated the main benefits provided under the scheme were sickness benefits, disablement benefits, dependent benefits, maternity benefits and medical benefits where all the cost of treatment and expenses are covered under the scheme. SDO(C) Kiphire, Thungchanbemo Tungoe also spoke during the programme which was chaired by assistant labour commissioner, Kiphire, T. Thsipenthe Sangtam and attended by principals and representative from private schools in Kiphire.
