
Advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Resource Development, R Khing, today inaugurated a women resource centre at Thosuzho, Runguzu Nasa under Chozuba sub-division in Phek district.
This is the first Women Resource Centre to be inaugurated out of the six centres which are under construction in Mokokchung, Phek, Wokha, Peren and Zunheboto. The land was donated free of cost by Runguzu Nasa.
In his address, Khing said WRD and DUDA are new departments and were the brainchild of chief minister Neiphiu Rio conceived during his first stint in 2003.
The rural areas have lot of potential but without opportunities, they are unable to expose their talents, he said adding that the centre would help them utilise their potentials towards enhancing their livelihood and economic conditions.
Stating that in olden days women were mostly confined to household chores, he said women should come forward to undergo training in different courses and improve their household incomes.
He expressed hope that the centre would be a centre of excellence which will ultimately result in furthering the concept of “Made in Nagaland”.
Khing also challenged the women folks and administrators of the centre to be an example for the rest of the state so that other sister departments would wilfully come forward to extend support. Earlier, the advisor also unveiled the inauguration plaque.
Delivering the keynote address, director of Women Resource Development, R. Khrienuo Tachü said that the objective of the department since its inception has been empowerment of Naga women with all round skill development. She expressed the hope that the centre would help enhance the skill of rural women towards improving their livelihood and enhance their economy.
She assured that the centre would endeavour to extend all possible support towards providing different trainings on weaving, tailoring, toy making, food processing etc. She also said that the department would also find market for the completed products in such centres.
Presenting a technical report, SDO PWD (H) Kohima Division-II, Teisovilie said construction started in 2012 and it was completed at a cost of Rs 3 crore.
Short speeches were also presented by Runguzu Nasa Village Council Chairman Vekhwünü, contractor Thepupi Kapu and ex-candidate, Kudecho Khamo.
Chaired by WRDO Chozuba, Zhoto Khamo, the programme commenced with pastor, Runguzu Nasa Baptist Church, Besüto Rhakho pronounced the dedicatory prayer.
A folk tune was presented by Women Society of Runguzu Nasa while assistant director, WRD Melumlungbo Zeliang tendered the vote of thanks and women pastor RNBC offered the benediction.
