Kikruma Village Development Board (VDB) Tuesday said Sedzü River between North Kikrüma village and Kezoma village continued to remain blocked by landslide that occurred on July 30, 2018 at Sarumu, North Kikrüma village, which resulted in the formation of an artificial lake.
In a press release, Kikruma village disaster management committee chairman, Vezohu Tunyi, said the formation of the dam, which stretches about 1km, has intensively damaged several paddy fields and plantations through accumulation of water.
Further, the committee said that partial burst of the dam in the following days due to continuous torrential rainfall had badly affected the downstream habitations, washing away paddy/terrace fields and plantations on the banks of Sedzu River.
The committee said all the affected areas within their jurisdictions have been assessed, adding that rough estimate shows loss of a few crores of rupees.
In this regard, the village disaster committee and Kikrüma village council have appealed to the responsible authority to compensate the poor farmers at the earliest.
Meanwhile, they have expressed gratitude to the administration department and disaster management forces for their advice and support.
