Oppn MLAs demand reply from advisors

Opposition members on the first day of the second session of the 13th NLA that began Tuesday demanded that advisors should be empowered to reply to the questions raised by the opposition.

The issue came up when the leader of the house, Neiphiu Rio, replied to the starred questions raised against the department of school education.

Leader of the opposition, TR Zeliang, asserted that since the advisors were appointed by the government they should either be allowed to reply in the assembly or do away with advisors, adding that government’s stand must be clear. The chief minister, however, clarified that the government after consultative meeting has decided that since the advisors were appointed as advisors to the departments, the concern minister would reply to the main questions and the advisors can reply supplementary questions.  However, Rio encouraged the advisors to participate in the assembly proceedings.
