The Governor, again and again, including all the educated and less educated Chief Ministers of the last five Governments of Nagaland, have said Nagas must change their Mindset for rapid Development of the State, But how?
i. By Education? Yes, Education can change the Mindset of the Society, but this will take at least another more than one generation of 30 years!
ii. By the Church? Yes, but the Church will change only the ‘Remnants’ of 99.9% Christian population of the State!
Then, how can the Naga Mindset change? The best Way, legal and lawful too, to change the Mindset of the Naga is to NEUTER every Violent Organization in the State and declare them “Terrorist Organization”. Any Organization armed or unarmed, political or Apolitical, religious or non-religious that tries to achieve its End otherwise with Means of Violence or Threat, is a “TERRORIST ORGANIZATION”. The Government needs to deal them with a mindset of bullet for bullet, Law for Bullet, Justice for Violence and Jail for criminal threat so that an atmosphere of peace and decency descends on the land.
Such a treatment will immediately Neuter all violent Organizations into harmless Gender and turn their Mindset into Mother of all Peace on earth, Glory to Nagaland Government in just one term of the government.
This is the most practical, legal and shortest way to change the Naga Mindset. The Naga is an imitative creature, and within a very short time, Lions will turn harmless Sheep, Daggers into useful Tools and the fearful Organizations will become Peacemakers.
By the way, what is Naga Mindset? Well, the gravitational centre of the Naga Mindset is Naga Nationalism in the Heart of every Naga different from Indian Nationalism. Naga Mindset is actually Naga Heart-set, it is in the heart more than in the mind. Every Naga view Naga Nationalism religiously and morally a rightful Idea and tend to take every activity of its Workers something proper and meaningful.
Many a Naga take even the violence of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, now changed to Nagalim, quietly if fearfully, and violence of Joint Action Committees (JAC) of the NGO, even setting fire to the city of Kohima, in order to violently bring down a duly elected government, a profanely proud sign of Consensuses or Unity of the people!?
Nagaland would not have developed into such violence and turmoil, and become mother of all armed violent Groups in the Northeast had the Senior retired members of the Naga National Council the gut to chide young Thuingaleng Muivah in Naga traditional customary manner when the Spirit of violence entered him. They were not as decisive as Muivah was when the spirit got in him.
The Government of India too misread the Naga Mindset or worked to manipulate the most violent, and the most ferocious of the National Groups, as the sole representative of the whole Naga Mindset.
This is a wrong political Capstone, a fragile springboard for initiation of the Peace Talk with the most violent. This contravenes India’s Principle of Peace Talk with Pakistan. This may give a wrong incentive to other multifarious political nascent groups in the Northeast, a dependence on the barrel of the gun to hope for political solution.
The settlement of the Indo-Naga political Issue may provide a proper political chain-reaction for finalization of the many other indigenous political problems of the Northeast, or a wrong move by GoI may open a Pandora’s Box of the problems in the Northeast. That may prove a weightier longer-lasting headache for the GoI than the issue of saffronization of the Northeast of the BJP.
