Naga People’s Front (NPF) has alleged that citizens are not safe under the PDA government citing the September 7 murder of a police officer. It said that if police officers were not secure, the common people were absolutely not safe.

Addressing media persons at the NPF Central Office in Kohima on Monday, NPF spokesperson Achumbemo Kikon said the longer the PDA government continues in power, the life of citizens would remain under threat. Kikon suggested that the government should pave way for an alternative if they could not protect the citizens.

NPF demanded that the government should ensure justice at the earliest by expediting the trail and awarding befitting punishment to the perpetrators as per the law of the land.

On the issue of importing live pigs from Punjab worth 200 Cr, initiated under DUDA, Kikon questioned the source of the huge amount.

Kikon asked how the government could extract money from DUDA, adding that there was no coordination in the government as the nodal department, which was supposed to be Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, was not aware of the deal struck between Nagaland and Punjab.

He said the step was not agreeable and local entrepreneurs should be supported to encourage local products.

Citing the formalin fish issue, Kikon said the imports could be hazardous to public health and also affect the state economy.

On the on-going four lane road construction, he said the road project was announced during the former PM Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s visit to the state in 2004.

He alleged that Rio was in power for 11 years yet he did not pursue it, and only after former CM T.R Zeliang took over as CM, the project materialized.

However, he said, the PDA government instead of expediting the work was derailing it with threats and physical harassment of the labourers with a group of sublet contractors also not being paid.

He said the project should be properly implemented and completed at the earliest if PDA wants to talk about developmental projects.

Kikon further added that it was unfortunate to see the complete failure of the PDA government in not being able to handle the project.

Coming to the directive of state BJP president Temjen Imna Along to paint five party symbols each in every polling station, Kikon reminded the party that painting its symbol within the vicinity of polling stations was a violation of the People Representation Act.

He said ECI had clearly directed parties to not even use party flags or scarves in polling stations.

Meanwhile NPF has expressed deepest condolences on the untimely demise of Late Imtikumkuk and said the party had fond memories of him when he was with NPF until the last election in February 2018.

It also conveyed prayers for the departed soul to rest in peace.
