Nagaland State Pharmacy Council (NSPC) celebrated Pharmacists’ Day under the theme “Pharmacist, Your Medicine Expert” at De. Oriental Grand Kohima, Tuesday.
Special invitee of the occasion, principal director health and family welfare Dr. Vikeyie Losu in his address acknowledged NSPC for organizing the event and said Pharmacists can do multi tasking job by administering and prescribing medicines to the patients.
He said pharmacists can even attend to traumatic patients and therefore play the role of a doctor in the process of delivering health care to the people.
In this regard, he appealed to the pharmacists to upgrade their skills and knowledge so that they can play a key role in improving access to medicines.
Losu further maintained that pharmacies should be manned by pharmacists and not by sales-man as pharmacists would be in better position to provide proper medication. He also acknowledged the good deeds carried out by the pharmacist.
NSPC president, Dziesevotuo, speaking on the significant of the day, said pharmacists should be able to differentiate between medicine and drugs.
Dziesevotuo said that pharmacists were a trusted source of knowledge not only for patients but for other healthcare professionals. He therefore urged the pharmacists to ensure that right medicine was provided with the right dose to the patients.
He also urged his colleagues to accept the drawbacks and call for more orientation and interactive programmes.
He said India was the only country having pharmacy diploma course, which might be the reason that the pharmacists were not able to reach the standard of globalization.
He further asked the pharmacists to be more acquainted with the pharmaceutical technology as rare diseases often penetrates in the state and it is where they (pharmacists) has to play a vital role. The programme chaired by drugs inspector Ethungbemo Ezung.
