Lone Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, KG Kenye, has appealed to the government of India to take up peace process with all earnest expediently.
Participating in the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to both houses of Parliament on Wednesday, KG Kenye said that the President did not make mention on the peace talk, which he described was “a high profile peace process” in the country.
The Rajya Sabha MP said that the last government had shown determination to solve the issue immediately back in 2014, but over the years the government was losing the steam.
MP said that the longer the issue drags on will tax both the national and the regional interest.
On the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), KG Kenye appealed to the Centre to interact more with the states to be affected like Assam, Nagaland and neighbouring states.
“We don’t like to be imposed with a dictate by the centre as we share the nation’s problem, nation’s problem is our problem but the nation must think first of its own citizens welfare and interest before thinking on bringing further from outside,” he said.
Referring to the President address of ‘regional imbalance’, MP said he thinks that the president also meant the balance of time in the proceedings of this House and requested Chairman of the house to allow more time.
On the limited time allotted to small states, Kenye lamented that in the last 55 years of the statehood, he and his predecessors put together might not have even taken one hour of the proceedings of this house and requested more time.
