Apple festival at Thanamir

The 8th Thanamir Apple festival, organised by Thanamir Village Council in collabaration with the department of Horticulture, was held on September 13 at public ground, Thanamir. 

Advisor Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan graced the festival as special guest. 

According to DIPR report, Yanthan in his speech said that Thanamir was created in a special way by God with wonderful people blessed with rich natural resources. He advised the local inhabitants and the nearby villages to take measures for more development in Apple production with proper management from different aspects. He also encouraged the villagers to get involved in promoting agriculture which can be good for economic growth as well as for health benefits. He further assured the people that his department will assist in getting the right species of Apple for the cultivators in order to produce more which can bring a positive outlook economically for the people of Nagaland.

Advisor IPR, SCERT & Village Guard, Toshi Wangtung, who also spoke on the occasion stressed on conserving forests. He said forests must be conserved in a larger way as cutting down of trees will lead to climatic change which will have negative impact on the cultivation of apples as well as for human survival in different ways. 

President, Yimchungru Tribal Council (YTC), Throngso, said Apples are not grown in every parts of the world but only in certain parts, therefore, the local cultivators must strive more in its cultivation. He further said holding such festival must continue even in the upcoming years with more production.
