
Awareness camp for adolescent girls and anaemia screening were conducted in Meriema village, Mayangnokcha government Higher secondary School (MGHSS), Mokokchung, District Hospital Peren, GHS Longjang and Vekuho Old village.
Meriema village: In Meriema village, the programme was conducted at the village community hall on September 24, organised in convergence with GMS, Health and Wellness Centre (HWC) and CDPO office, Kohima (Tribal), under Rashtriya Poshan Maah.
A press release from CDPO office Kohima senior supervisor, Reyivolu stated that, community health officer from HWC Meriema, Sibenya was the resource person. Speaking on the theme, “adolescent girls health and anaemia,” she stressed on the need to stay hygienic, especially during menstrual period. She also spoke on anaemia, signs, symptoms and the need to receive medical help at the right time.
Reyivolu, senior supervisor from CDPO office, Kohima (T) spoke on the theme, “adolescent girls: diet and right age of marriage.” She underscored the subject by saying that adolescent period offers a window of opportunity for the improvement of nutrition and for correcting poor nutritional practices. Speaking on the right age of marriage, she cautioned how early marriage negatively impacts on the physical, mental, and emotional health, and thereby blocks educational opportunities, besides the risk of complication during pregnancy and childbirth.
The first session was led by Keneilhoupfenuo, supervisor, Kohima (T), invocation was said by Vitseizonuo Huozha, evangelist, CRC Meriema. Anaemia screening, performed by the HWC Meriema team was conducted in the second session.
MGHSS Mokokchung: The camp was held at Mayangnokcha Government Higher secondary School (MGHSS), Mokokchung on September 23 organised by Ongpangkong (North) ICDS project in convergence with department of Health & Family Welfare.
According to DIPR report, delivering a short speech on Poshan Maah, Talisangla Nokdir, CDPO Ongpangkong (N) pointed out that it was a community based programme, where stakeholders converge to work for a healthy community.
Dr. Moamongla, Ayush department, IMDH while interacting with the girls informed about the problem of anaemia and its treatment. Dr. Salong and his team from Urban Primary Health Centre, Yimyu, highlighted about symptoms, treatment and preventives measures regarding anaemia and Diarrhea.
The team also provided information on adolescent girl health issues. Seven steps of washing hands for hygienic life style was also demonstrated by the team. Senior supervisor, Meyala chaired the programme while Dr. Sentienla, supervisor said the invocation.
DH Peren: One-day anaemia screening awareness camp-cum-Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) spot registration was conducted at District Hospital Peren on September 21.
According to DIPR report, the programme was organized by ICDS block Peren in convergence with Medical department. SDO (Civil) Peren, Rahul Mali graced the programme as special guest.
During the programme, paediatrician, Dr. John Kent spoke on the importance of anaemia screening with special emphasis on symptoms, effects and preventive measures. Senior supervisor, Pauning Elunglung chaired the programme, CDPO Peren, Asangla highlighted the activities of Poshan Maah and delivered vote of thanks. Altogether 120 people participated in the camp.
GHS Longjang: Block level anaemia screening camp was held at Government High School (GHS), Longjang on September 25, organised by Kobulong ICDS project in collaboration with the department of Health & Family Welfare.
Dr. Nungshikokba, MO, PHC Longjang and his team conducted the screening.
Vekuho Old village: Zunheboto ICDS project anaemia screening camp was held at Vekuho Old Village on September 22 with the assistance of Medical department.
Sr. supervisor, Benjamin Sema chaired the programme, an overview was delivered by supervisor, Innoto K Achumi. Valerie Kiba, BPM Zunheboto Sadar explained the gathering on anaemia.
The camp was attended by more than 100 people including Asha coordinator, Kivinitoli Yepthomi, anganwadi workers and helpers. 40 people were screened for anaemia, where two lactating mother, one pregnant woman and one child were tested positive and referred to Atoizu PHC. IFA tablets were distributed by Tozheli, LHU and Zheholi ANM PHC Atoizu during the screening.
Tamlu and Bura Namsang: Anaemia screening camp was organized for adolescent girls of various schools under Tamlu block on September 26 at St. Thomas School Tamlu and Government High School Bura Namsang.
According to DIPR report, 71 adolescent girls were screened for anaemia at St Thomas School Tamlu and 32 girls at Government High School B/Namsang village. Medical team at Tamlu was led by Dr. Baungan MO, PHC while Hamlong, programme asst, Poshan Abhiyan and Lachi, ANM and Manli AWW at B/Namsang village. The girls were provided IFA tablets.
The camp was organised in convergence with line departments of Health & Family Welfare and School Education. Anaemia screening camp will held in all schools where adolescent girls are enrolled according to Longlang CDPO & member secy BCAP, Tamlu block.
