
Wokha Town Council (WTC) in collaboration with district administration conducted one-day waste management-cum-training of trainers (ToTs) at Tiyi hall Wokha on November 9.
According to DIPR report, Dr Chumben Murry, MLA, speaking during the training programme said, that in his own capacity he had initiated several programmes in all the wards under Wokha town. He had conducted cleanliness drive and organized training programmes to sensitize the public about the hazards and ill effect on improper management of wastes. He appealed all the participants to be agents of change for positive change in society.
Deputy commissioner, Wokha, Orenthung Lotha who also addressed the gathering called upon every concerned citizen of the district to give maximum effort and take up preventive measures to keep surrounding clean as the waste generated in town was at an alarming rate. He also urged all participants to spare at least an hour in a week or month and take up the responsibility of cleaning surrounding areas, colonies and work place and appealed all to spread awareness in their respective colonies, areas and schools.
Founder chairperson, LiFE, Dimapur, Niksungla while presenting an overview of waste management said, the US public health service has identified 22 human diseases that were linked to improper solid waste management. She further said human fecal, along with unmanaged decomposed garbage attracted other rodents that lead to spread of diseases.
Emphasizing on the responsibility of waste management, she stated that it was the collective responsibility of every human being to clean the environment and protect the planet from further environmental degradation.
Resources persons from LiFE also highlighted about the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders, where important topics and environment and Do’s and Don’ts were discussed.
Training programme was chaired by ADC & administrator, WTC, Mhathung Tsanglao. Representatives from colonies, women organization, schools and NGOs attended the training.
