Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) and Kohima District Truck Owners & Drivers’ Union (KDTODU) have strongly condemned the physical assault meted out to a truck driver allegedly by suspected NSCN(I-M) cadres near Khuzama Excise check gate, Kohima on November 20, 2019.
NVCO through its press & media cell expressed shock over the “inhuman conduct” of the suspected armed NSCN(I-M) cadres “just for money” amidst highest level of negotiation for Naga solution by their leaders. NVCO said the act was an insult to the enquiry committee constituted to check the illegal collection of cash at check gates and on highways in and around Kohima.
NVCO has demanded that the district administration and police arrest the perpetrators at the earliest and award stringent punishment so no such crime was repeated in Southern Angami area in the future. It stated that no one had any right to conduct illegal collection of taxes either at the check gates or highways or market places or anywhere etc.
KDTODU: Kohima District Truck Owners & Drivers’ Union (KDTODU) termed the act as “very unfortunate” and said that such act creates insecurity for truck drivers in the state.
In a press release, KDTODU president Riivese Sokha and Secretary Kiivethi Puro questioned how such “a serious human torture” could be meted to a fellow truck driver in a broad daylight near the check gate maintained by Nagaland Police and people in the vicinity.
KDTODU also demanded that the district administration and police immediately apprehend the perpetrators so they could face punishment as per the law. It said failure to do so would put the lives of truck drivers at stake.
