
Nagaland BJP president and minister, Temjen Imna Alnog has expressed anguished over the discrimination of people from Northeast in several parts of the country following the outbreak of COVID-19. Along said such racial prejudice against the mongoloid people of the country was “a result of sheer ignorance on the part of many of our mainland brethren, about the diversity of our great nation.”
“I am pained that a section of the citizenry should face harrowing experiences just because they look different; that some should be wrongfully and forcefully quarantined just because of their looks .After all, it is the coronavirus we must confront, and not the people, or the victims of the virus, for that matter,” he said. He said, keeping in mind what Prime Minister Modi had conveyed to the SAARC nations in a video conference recently, it was important for everyone to respond to the pandemic by coming together, and not growing apart. Along appealed to BJP presidents of states, to use their good offices and, to create awareness about the importance of maintaining communal harmony in this extraordinary times, because racial profiling can never bring our nation together. He said the need of the hour was to unite the people of India in the face of this catastrophe which has become pandemic in nature.
