International nurses’ day under the theme “Nurses a voice to lead: Nursing the world to health” was organised by Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), local branch Kohima at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) on May 12.
A press release from NHAK stated that, nurses of Naga Hospital held a short lamp lighting ceremony, wherein lamp was lit by Nothusanu, nursing superintendent, NHAK. President TNAI, local branch, Kohima Rita Angami, said that this nurse’s day could not be celebrated in a grand manner like the other years, due to COVID-19 pandemic, but stressed that it was special because it was the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingal’s birth.
It must be noted that World Health Organization has designated 2020 as the year of nurses and midwife.
Rita also urged all the nurses to unite even during such unfortunate situation and work with sincerity while dealing with people’s life. Being a nurse is a noble profession because it demanded tireless contribution, dedication and an extraordinary amount of compassion and selflessness, she added.
Earlier, invocation was offered by NHAK chaplain Vikepu Tepa. TNAI, local branch Kohima also visited the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home and Cradle Ridge Hospice, Kohima. They distributed rice and other essential items to the home.
