ATMA Phek conducted training and demonstration programmes at Wazeho block of Wazeho village on June 5 and Yisisotha village, Wazeho on June 25.
A press release from ATMA Phek ATM Vitsonuo Solo stated that, the trainings were conducted by ATMs Sinilo Kent and Vitsonuo Solo. They trained the farmers on banana cultivation, integrated pest management using yellow sticky traps and nursery management of vegetable crop. Demonstration on mushroom cultivation was also conducted at the villages.
The ATMA functionaries of Wazeho block also conducted a field day for QUIYI group on bean cultivation at Wazeho village on June 22.
Farmer’s Interest Group (FIG) and Food Security Group (FSG) were set up for the famers of Wazeho and Yisisotha villages by the ATMA functionaries.
K.Vilo of Wazeho village, involved in mixed farming of pineapple, tree bean and banana was presented the Farmers Award for best performing farmer (individual) while QUIYI group involved in farming and pickle making were given the Farmers Award for best performing group under Wazeho block. The total members in both groups were 35 for Wazeho village and 30 for Yisisotha village.
ATMA Kohima: ATMA Chunlikha block, Kohima conducted training on awareness of giloy plant (Tinospora cordifolia) and its medicinal values on July 9 at New Tesophenyu, conducted by ATM Kebegi Kent.
A press release from ATMA Chunlikha block stated that, farmers were taught on how to identify the plant, parts to be used, medicinal values and growing techniques. The giloy plant belongs to Menispermaceae family and is generally a climbing shrub, mostly found in tropical and sub-tropical area of India. The plant parts used are stem, leaves, roots and fruits. This medicinal plant is also used for treating fever, sore throat, cold, high blood pressure, diabetes, jaundice, heart disease, piles, liver disorder, cancer as well as burning sensation during urination. This plant has the ability to mount an immune response or defend against pathogens. 10 famers attended the training and also planting materials were distributed to them.
