
The 206th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, the architect of Nepali language was observed by Gorkha community in Nagaland on July 13. Bhanubhakta Acharya was a Nepali poet, translator and was the first writer to translate the great epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali. Despite having other contemporary poets in the country during his time, he is revered and honored with the title of Adikavi (the first poet) of the Nepali language.
GSKSK Kohima: Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima (GSKSK) under the aegis of Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) celebrated the occasion at GPPK hall, Chandmari Kohima with minimal participation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A press release by Gorkha Youth Association (GYA) president Narayan Bahadur stated that, delivering the speech, GPPK president Santu Thapa said that celebration could not be held in a big manner like the previous years due to the pandemic. However, following the SOP and social distancing protocols the community observed the day through virtual mode with minimal participation at the main venue in GPPK hall. He conveyed best wishes to fellow members of the community, and also hoped that they would draw inspiration from Bhanubhakta Acharya to work for the community and humanity during this pandemic.
On behalf of the Gorkha community, Thapa extended gratitude to all the frontline workers and also prayed for the speedy recovery of the COVID-19 infected and affected persons.
GSKSK vice president Ganga Thapa chaired the programme while welcome address was delivered by assistant general secretary Bikash Lama. Bala Khawas presented the life sketch of Acharya and secretary GSKSK Dilip Biswakarma gave the vote of thanks.
CGY Chümoukedima: Chümoukedima Gorkha Youth (CGY) celebrated Gorkha festival Bhanu Jayanti, the 206th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya at Chümoukedima town on July 13.
A press release from CGY media cell stated that, the Gorkha festival was observed with strict compliance to the safety measures as per government guidelines. Only the CGY leaders along with winners of 6th cultural and literary online competition were present during the programme, totalling to 25 persons.
The following persons were the winner of 6th cultural and literary online competition 2020. In painting completion, Nidhi Tamang first, Muskan Rai second; In dance competition, Kalpana Shrestha first, Anju Mohote secong; In traditional attire photo contest, Khushi Bhusal first (junior), Isha Adhikari second (junior), Kalpana Shrestha first (senior) and Suman Giri second (senior).
Special prizes were also given to some selected students for their excellence by president Manoj Shrestha, namely Nuneema Limbu for photography contest, Renu Thapa photography contest and Bandana Ghimire dance competition.
GYC Dimapur: Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur (GYCD) celebrated the occasion at Signal Rana Colony with its office bearers by following all the mandatory norms and guidelines of COVID-19 issued by government.
A press release by GYC Dimapur stated that, Shiva Kumar BK in his presidential speech urged all his community members to come together and help each other to fight the pandemic. He also asked them to follow all the guidelines of COVID-19 also make others aware of it, than only we can overcome it. Short note on COVID-19 awareness was presented by disaster management secretary, Kailash Chetri, while Ramayanpath recitation was given by advisor Ganesh Acharya.
Earlier, programme was chaired by GYC cultural secretary Suraj Ghataney and welcome speech was delivered by GYC vice principal Satish Kunwar Chetri (V.P). The GYC Dimapur also thanked GB of Signal Rana Colony Om Bahadur Rana.
