Nagaland reports outbreak of ASF

State Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services department has reported an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the State of Nagaland. 

This was confirmed through RTPCR test by National Institute of High Security Animal Disease, Bhopal from the samples submitted from Phek  and Kiphire districts a DIPR report stated.

In this regard, the department has advised the public, pig farmers, pig traders, butchers, village functionaries, ward/colony members to remain cautious and vigilant and to report any unusual mortality of domestic pigs and feral pigs to the nearest Veterinary Institute and assist the department and Environment, Forest & Climate Change for Sero-surveillance, Control, Containment & Eradication as per the National Action Plan issued by Central government.

The outbreak is notified as per the “The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Disease in Animal Act, 2009”, the report said. 

Further, a radius of 1Km from the epicentre of the disease outbreak at Phek and Kiphire have been hereby declared Infected Zone (IZ) and a radius of 10 Kms as Surveillance Zone with immediate effect until further notice.
