 Assam Rifles claimed to have obtained the surrender of an active cadre of ULFA (I) along Indo-Myanmar border in Mon district. Defence PRO Lt Col Sumit K Sharma in a press release said concerted efforts of Tuensang Battalion of IGAR (North) under Spear Corps to convince insurgent cadres to rejoin the mainstream led to another major success when a border domination patrol obtained surrender of the active ULFA (I) cadre along the international border while he was returning from Myanmar. Mentioning that the cadre revealed that the third kidnapped ONGC employee Ritul Saikia was with ULFA (I) in all probability, the PRO claimed that the surrendered militant also mentioned that he had led a difficult life while in the armed outfit and made an appeal to his comrades to shun violence.
