Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) has express displeasure over the irregular and erratic power supply in Mokokchung and urged the power department to at least regulate the load shedding periods if it was “unreasonable to expect uninterrupted power supply”.

In a letter addressed to the to the executive engineer, electrical division Mokokchung, the MCCI president Tsukti Lkr stated that irregular power supply was not only causing inconvenience and hardship to the consumers, but also causing heavy commercial losses and accumulating debts among the members of the business community especially those businesses dependent on electricity.

Stating that recurrent power was resulting in damages to electronic appliances, tools and machineries, the MCCI questioned whether the power department was ready to compensate for the damages. The chamber stated that in an ideal scenario, all consumers would be willingly pay for 24×7 uninterrupted and stable power supplies, but expressed regret that such a scenario was far from reality today in the state.

MCCI, however, said that people expected the power department to at least demonstrate a certain level of proficiency and competence in discharging their duty “to lessen the predicament of irregular and erratic power supply to the least extent possible.”

Further, the chamber suggested the department to introduce a weekly or fortnightly load shedding schedule and disseminate the information of the same to the consumers.

It said that random load shedding and unscheduled power outages not only caused inconvenience to the consumers and business losses, but also exhibited “naked ineptness of the power department.”
