In view of the increase in cybercrime, the Nagaland police organised a police “Hackathon” in Kohima on Friday.
The programme was an initiative for all computer programmers and interested people to showcase innovative ideas and come up with software, with a focus to reduce and help solve the crimes in the state.
Speaking at the programme, DGP T. John Longkumer lauded the participants for coming up with innovative ideas to reduce the cybercrime within the state.
He stated that with the advancement of technology, criminals had also evolved and hence new ideas had to be introduced to be ahead of them.
The DGP informed that the Nagaland police signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NELIT) with an aim to motivate the young officers and keep them at par with the new technologies.
He added that these ideas would strengthen and empower the police department.
During the programme, first prize was bagged by Team May consisting of Rongbangmeren, Longtsusang and Yangerlong Jamir to come up with the solution to resolve the highway security crisis.
The second prize was bagged by team Solvs consisting of Suhit Sonar and Obed Jamir to come up with integrated check gate system and third place was bagged by team Enigma, consisting of Thejavilhou and Chubalemba.
Judges for the programme were Dr. J. Arul, Uniel Kichu and Daniel Meren.
