ENSURE WOMEN’S SAFETY IN OUR OWN HOMES AND OFFICES FIRST: DGP

Director general of police (DGP), Nagaland T. John Longkumer graced the valedictory programme of the second batch of “five-day course for investigators on women safety” in the multi-purpose hall of the Nagaland Police Training School (NPTS) on Friday.
Speaking at the programme as special guest, DGP said that apart from the legal processes of investigation on women’s safety, people needed to be aware of the physical and mental issues of the victims of abuse.
“We need to emphasise and take that extra step to make them feel safe and secure under our wings”, Longkumer stated.
Pointing out that they must practice what they preach, DGP said that the maxim should begin from the police department.
“Ensure women’s safety in our own homes and offices first” he further exhorted.
Longkumer stated that Naga men were traditionally taught to be true warriors to defend what they held dear, however, he said that “a true Naga warrior will defend and ensure the safety of the women he holds dear”.
Later, DGP handed out the certificates and remarked that the category would be kept in mind for the award of DGP commendation disc in the future.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by NPTS assistant principal Thungrhoni Kikon, welcome address was delivered by vice principal I. Meren Chenth while speech on behalf of the participants was delivered by SDPO Mokokchung, Chuba Chang.
