DIMAPUR: One day training on “counter wildlife trafficking and biodiversity conservation” was held on March 10 at Tuli College jointly organized by the Nagaland Forest Department, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) India and Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB).
A press release by forest department stated that the training was organised for forest, police personnel, all ward chairmen of Tuli town wards, council chairman and representatives from Merangkong, Wamaken, Kangtsung village council and students and faculty members of Tuli College including the Board of Governance of the College.
Special invitee, Amenba Yaden, MLA, highlighted the richness in terms of biodiversity, close association of human beings on forest, wildlife, biodiversity and nature and need of awareness among all stakeholders for the cause of conservation.
He appealed to all participants to concentrate on learning from different resource persons of the programme and implement the learning optimally.
Retired PCCF and HoFF, Nagaland and chairman, state biodiversity board, Nagaland, Satya Prakash Tripathi gave a historical background of the training.
He emphasised the need for creating awareness among stakeholders for conservation of natural resources along with combating wildlife crimes.
Retired PCCF (Wildlife) and chief wildlife warden, Assam and the team leader, Dev Prakash Bankhwal spoke on creating a sense of ownership towards natural resources and equipping the frontline staff to tackle wildlife crimes.
Tuli College principal Abdul Kabir Ahmed also spoke on the importance of conservation and the initiatives and its importance for sustainability.
The inaugural program was chaired by DFO Mokokchung division, Dr Sentitula, invocation was pronounced by Tuli College administrator Nukshi and a special song was presented by Moali.
