Southern Angami Women Organisation (SAWO) celebrated its silver jubilee on October 13 at Main Arena, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama with advisor, youth resources & sports, Er. Zale Neikha and advisor, technical education and election, Medo Yhokha as the special guests.
According to a DIPR report, Er. Neikha while releasing a book to commemorate the jubilee lauded SAWO for its good works and encouraged the organisation to continue passing the good traditions and practices of their forefathers to the younger generation. Releasing a book documenting the traditional attires and ornaments of the Southern Angami region, Yhokha expressed hope that it would help in preserving the traditional attires and ornaments for future generations.
Speaking on the theme, “Pass on the good practices of our forefathers”, Angami Women Organisation, general secretary, Chozhüle Kikhi pointed out some of the beliefs and good practices of the forefathers and narrated the beliefs held and rituals performed by their forefathers to perform various tasks.
She reminded the gathering of the rich social life the past generation enjoyed, and also how some of the practices of “kenyü” (prohibitions) have helped in maintaining harmony and order in the society. She appealed the gathering to hold on to the good practices. During the jubilee celebration, Neisevoü Kirha, one of the founding members of SAWO, unfurled the SAWO silver jubilee flag, and the blessing on the occasion was given by 1st SAWO president, Zakieviu Kechü. Folk songs were performed by women representing the 13 villages of the Southern Angami area.
