Meghalaya govt denies permission for PM’s rally
Correspondent Adds: Meghalaya sports department has denied permission to the BJP to host an election rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at PA Sangma Stadium, citing that the stadium was incomplete.
PM was scheduled to hold a rally at the stadium, located at chief minister Conrad K Sangma’s home constituency of South Tura.
The BJP on Sunday slammed the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for not allowing PM to hold the election rally.
“We have received this letter stating that the PM’s rally at PA Sangma stadium cannot be allowed since the project is yet to be completed,” BJP national secretary and co-convenor for North East, Rituraj Sinha told reporters.
“My question is that if the PA Sangma stadium is yet to be completed for PM’s rally this month, so on December 16, why did the chief minister inaugurate the stadium,” he asked.
Modi is scheduled to visit Meghalaya on February 24 to address an election rally at Tura and then hold a roadshow in Shillong the same day.
