Phom Union Kohima (PUK) celebrated Monyiu festival at NBCC Convention Center, Kohima on April 1.
The festival was graced by B. Bangtick Phom MLA as the special guest.
A DIPR report stated that, Phom extended festival greetings to the people and extended appreciation to the people for having him elected as an MLA. He called upon the gathering to work together to strive ahead and to live in unity for the uplift of the community. Kohima Village Council chairman, Helievio Solo conveyed his greetings to the Phom community. He appreciated the Phom community living in Kohima for showing their love and honour and wished the friendship between the Phom community and other communities will be stronger than ever. Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Kohima (ENPUK) president, N. Toshi Chang in his speech said, celebrations were a way of expressing joy, happiness and gratitude. He mentioned that it was an opportunity to bring people together and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Speaking on behalf of in-laws, ADC Jalukie, TL Kiusumong Tikhir greeted everyone who had come to celebrate Monyiu. He said the festival was all about the feeling of oneness and called upon them to maintain the good qualities inherited from the forefathers.
Other highlights of the festival included significance of Phom Monyiu demonstrated by PSUK and youth department of KBPC, a lullaby by Tamlu Bühü Union Kohima, a folk song presented by Phomla Hoichem Kohima Unit and the Phumnyu Union Kohima performed a folk dance with beating log drum. The gathering was also enthralled by Hamngoi mukho and friends.
President, Phom Union Kohima, Dr. S. Manyau delivered the welcome address and vice president (PUK) P.Imti Mokholee proposed the vote of thanks.
