A day long training programme Tier III on “Local Groundwater related issues and participatory groundwater management” was held on August 18 at Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu.
The programme was organized and sponsored by Central Ground Water Board (NER, Guwahati) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR.
Speaking at the programme as chief guest, Dr. T. Alemla Longkumer spoke on one of the college’s primary goal of “Conserving the environment” and augmentation of water source and establishment of Water Recharge reservoir in the college premises.
She urged upon everyone to take responsibility in preserving and conserving the natural water resources for the future as water being the elixir of life and without which there can be no social and economic prosperity.
Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), State Unit Office, Shillong, Meghalaya, officer in charge, Dakshina Rabha, in her presidential address deliberated on the roles and responsibilities of CGWB, NER in imparting training, reporting and documentation of Ground water in North Eastern Region for augmentation, conservation and preservation of ground water for ensuring availability of safe and sustainable water to everyone.
Guest of honour, Water Resources Department, Mokokchung, executive engineer Sutemo Kikon, spoke on the issues of water faced by the country and Mokokchung in particular.
Kikon also spoke on the initiative taken by the district Water Resources department and the need for convergence of different departments for sustainable water conservation.
At the technical session, topics on “Hydrological Concept and Aquifer Information system” was presented by AHG, CGWB, NER; Tiamenba Longshir, “Rain Water Harvesting and Artificial Recharge” by Bipul Vishal, STA (Hg), CGWB, NER; “Water Quality Issues and its impact on human health” by V. Kezo, Scientist C, CGWB, NER and “Hydrogeology of Nagaland with special reference to spring water” by Anenuo Pienyu, Scientist C, CGWB, NER.
The session concluded with a brief summary by Dakshina Rabha.
