World opinion on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza has once again brought to the fore how drum beaters of human rights apply a different yardstick on the conflict that requires to be exposed in the interest true human rights. When Hamas terrorists launched a blitzkrieg from Gaza on Israel on October 7, around 1400 Israelis –men, children and infirmed-were butchered, women and girls raped and killed and over 200 including babies taken hostage. The world needs to differentiate between the rights of Palestinians and the right of Israel to coexist. Also the world needs to differentiate between Hamas, a terrorist organisation and Palestinians as a people. In 2015 Hamas brutally killed more than 25 Palestinians on suspicion that they were working for Israelis. Even over a decade earlier, Hamas had executed or brutally tortured Palestinians on mere suspicions of spying for Israelis. These are acts that Hamas is used to and which it has perpetrated without any qualms even on Palestinians because it thrives on fear and no respect or consideration for human laws but only the law of the jungle. It is a fact that Palestinians fear Hamas which had terrorised the people and also brutally eliminated leaders of its political rival, the Al Fatah since 2007. Hamas is feared and not liked by the Palestinians should make the pro-Palestinian drum beaters open their closed minds since knowing the difference will lead to clarity on what right is right. When some 2500 Hamas terrorists launched a blitzkrieg against Israel on October 7 and committed among the worst of heinous crimes on Israelis, the drum beaters for Palestinian rights maintained an eerie silence. Hamas knew that Israelis would react with vengeance if its armed goons launched attacks across Gaza into Israel. Hamas also knew very well that the Israeli reprisal would be very heavy if unarmed civilians, women and children are butchered or raped as happened on October 7. The video clips showing the brutality committed by Hamas on Israeli civilians shocked the world but barely a dozen countries such as India, condemned Hamas. After committing barbaric crimes in Israel on October 7, Hamas took over 200 hostages across to Gaza and dispersed inside tunnels located in residential areas and buildings. Shocked and insulted Israel vowed to finish Hamas and retaliated with fury and vengeance. Not only being most brutal, Hamas terrorists have been using human shields in the Gaza strip to fire rockets and house their command posts and fully understanding that civilians will bear the brunt of any Israeli retaliation. Thus when Israel attacked Hamas terrorists operating under tunnels located beneath hospitals and homes, there were civilians casualties. When Israel retaliated, the drum beaters expressed hue and cry against Israel and reiterated support for the Palestinians. The recent United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) resolution on October 27 for a non-binding resolution called for a ceasefire in Gaza. Though India supports the rights of Palestinians it abstained from voting since the UNGA refused to condemn Hamas for terrorist acts. Another thing, Palestine has been a popular pretext of Islamic terror and jihadi groups supported and funded by Arab countries like Iran, Qatar and most Muslim countries like Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan. The difference is perception and which is that Hamas is a Palestinian group but all Palestinians are not Hamas.
