An awareness programme under the theme, “Inclusion for every child” was held Saturday at GB’s Hall Pungro, Kiphire. The programme was organised by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Kiphire in collaboration with Pungro Area College Students’ Union (PACSU), District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Kiphire, and Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC) Kiphire.
Highlighting the gathering on the theme, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) N.S. Kaikho emphasised on four basic rights of a child i.e., “Right to Survival”, “Right to Development”, “Right to Participation”, and “Right to Protection”.
Emphasising on the importance of child rights, he said every child should enjoy equal rights and that no child should be deprived of their rights. Kaikho also urged the gathering to be ambassadors of advocating child rights to those who are not aware of child rights.
Legal cum Probation Officer (LCPO) Bendangwati Sangtam spoke on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The gathering was also sensitised on various schemes and sponsorship available for women namely Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP), Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS), Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) scheme, Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) by specialist in Financial Literacy (DHEW), Limitsung Sangtam.
Sakhi-OSC Kiphire, counsellor Tsosing spoke on various service provided by the Centre and encouraged usage of women helpline number, 181, for any assistance.
The programme began with welcome address by PACSU president, Tsuyiba and culminated with vote of thanks by PACSU vice president, Dolun. Earlier, on November 14, DCPU also celebrated “Child Rights Week” at Cambridge High School Kiphire.
