MGM College, Dimapur held its annual cultural and literary day on February 24 at the College Auditorium with a series of competitions that displayed the rich cultural heritage of the country at large and the artistic streaks of the students.
During the formal session, assistant professor, department of history, Fuchumo, highlighted the importance of preserving the cultural heritage and the essence of intangible cultural attributes.
MGM College Students’ Union, cultural secretary, Keyitwale, spoke about the significance of culture and reiterated the importance of observing such a day. The competitions for the cultural event were winnowing, traditional fire-making, cultural show, folk-fusion song, and cultural dance. The competitions for the literary event were essay writing, extemporaneous speech, slam poetry, and debate.
LFIC: A two-day “2nd literary cum cultural meet” by the Livingstone Foundation International College (LFIC) held under the theme, “Perusing the past, Recasting the future” culminated on February 23.
A press release by LFIC informed that guest of honour, geologist, directorate of Geology and Mining, David Lhoupenyi, stressed the importance of literature and encouraged the students to be a part of the literary world. LFI administrator, Arthur Edward, urged the students and teachers to be dedicated and live a life of integrity.
Various competitions such as debate on the impact of social media, poetry recital, prepared speech, painting competition and spelling bee, folk tale and folk song, indigenous games such as fat eating competition, basket race, yarn spinning, marble and five stones were conducted during the two-day event.
