In view of the forthcoming elections to 23 wards under Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF), Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) and Chakroma Public Organisation (CPO) have appealed for a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process.

In a press note, DUCCF, through its secretary Bokato Wotsa, appealed the state election machinery to ensure conduct of free and fair polls, all contesting candidates to abide by the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), and the voters to exercise their adult franchise conscientiously.

DUCCF discouraged booth capturing and other illegal activities to unduly influence the election process in favour of any particular candidate, requesting colony councils to remain vigilant and ensure that only voters registered in a particular ward were allowed access to the polling station/booth concerned.
According to DUCCF, the colony councils should set an example of remaining neutral and cooperate with the administration in upholding the rule of law by any means.

The federation wished and prayed that urban local body (ULB) elections be held in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

WSH, CPO appeal: With the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections approaching, the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) and Chakroma Public Organisation (CPO) have appealed for a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process.

In a joint statement, WSH and CPO presidents stressed that it was imperative that the elections were conducted in a transparent and democratic manner, ensuring that all candidates had equal opportunities to present their vision and engage with voters.

They urged all candidates and party workers to refrain from any form of violence, intimidation, or unethical practices that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
Calling upon all voters to exercise their democratic right responsibly and thoughtfully, they pointed out that it was crucial that voters made their decisions based on the merits and capabilities of the candidates, rather than on tribal lines or affiliations.

“By electing leaders who are honest, competent, and dedicated to serving the community, we can collectively contribute to the development and progress of our region,” the statement emphasised.
The WSH and CPO presidents urged all stakeholders to work together towards a peaceful and harmonious electoral environment, where every voice was heard and every vote counted.

They called for demonstrating their commitment to democracy and good governance by participating in the electoral process with integrity and respect for one another.
