Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has called on the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to expedite the restoration of National Highway 29, which has been completely cut off due to a massive landslide near Melarü under Sechü-Zubza since last week.
CNTC emphasized the importance of NH-29, not only as the main artery connecting the state capital Kohima with its commercial hub Dimapur but also as a crucial link to neighboring Manipur. CNTC urged NHIDCL to not only focus on the landslide restoration but also to address the widespread potholes that have compromised the quality and safety of the four-lane highway.
While appreciating the state government’s efforts in assisting NHIDCL with the restoration work, CNTC requested that further pressure be applied to ensure the highway is restored at the earliest. It also suggested that the government identify and develop an alternate road, given the frequent landslides that make NH-29 vulnerable to disruptions.
