Nkialwa Heseinamie Bau (NHB) and Mpai Students’ Union (MSU) have backed the ultimatum of Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) to the Directorate of School Education (DoSE) and objected the recent rationalization exercise undertaken by the department.
In a joint press statement, Nkialwa village council chairman, Ipungba Nren; chairman School Management Committee, Irailung Samding and NHB president, Keyinreulu Nren stated that the “ill-considered decision” will have far-reaching and devastating consequences on the academic performance and future prospects of the students.
They said that the intention behind the rationalization process was to optimize teaching staff and resources, but random transfer of Math and Science teachers without understanding the ground reality could have detrimental effects on both the students and the academic environment of the school.
In this connection, they have urged the concerned authority to reconsider the decision and explore alternative measures that could achieve the goals of rationalization without sacrificing the quality of education. They further said that failing to reconsider the decision, will be considered as “academic cruelty” and “discrimination” against the students’ community.
MSU: While extending support, MSU said department has made “a grave mistake” to transfer subject teachers without deploying replacements, especially where the enrolment in schools is high and requires more subject teachers.
Mentioning that shortage of teachers and disparity in the rationalisation process was causing hindrances in children’s education in rural areas, which have demoralised the students.
Therefore, MSU said that the three-point charter of demands put forth by the ZSUN was genuine and appealed to the department to fulfil it for the sake of the students’ future.
