With an aim to improve healthcare accessibility across the state’s tribal districts, Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, donated six community ambulances to Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Tseminyu and Peren districts here on Friday.
Funded under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) 2024-25, the ambulances were allocated with the aim to address the pressing medical transport needs of remote tribal communities. The official handover ceremony took place at Neo Motors 4th Mile, Chumoukedima district, where the ambulances were entrusted to the respective apex tribal organisations.
Speaking at the event, MP Supongmeren Jamir highlighted the importance of empowering local tribal bodies to serve as a bridge between underserved communities and essential healthcare services. “Our tribal organizations have been instrumental in supporting people at grassroots levels. By equipping them with ambulances, we’re enabling a direct line to emergency services for those in remote areas,” Jamir said.
Acknowledging the role of tribal hohos in facilitating critical outreach, MP asserted that the ambulances would provide much-needed support for communities that often lacked reliable transportation to healthcare facilities.
Expressing gratitude to district planning officers and ministry officials for their ongoing collaboration, the MP underscored the plans to expand similar initiatives across other districts.
“With this, I hope we can come together to serve our people, filling gaps where government resources may be stretched thin,” he added. He also thanked media representatives for their role in sharing the news widely.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DPO Mokokchung, N Chuba Phom and dedicatory prayer by associate pastor Sumi Baptist Church Diphupar, Jacob Achumi.
