Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) organized a pivotal program in Mopungchuket village, Mokokchung district, advocating for sustainable tourism at the grassroots level on October 31.
The event was attended by community leaders, local entrepreneurs, and tourism stakeholders to discuss how sustainable practices can benefit Nagaland’s culture, environment, and economy.
NTA called on the government to enhance support for community-led tourism initiatives that celebrate Nagaland’s cultural heritage and natural landscapes. They emphasized the need for policy frameworks and funding to promote projects in rural areas that offer economic opportunities while safeguarding biodiversity and traditional practices.
Panel discussions and interactive sessions were led by NTA president Vimeto Vakha and general secretary Veshehu Kezo, alongside local tourism pioneers who shared Mopungchuket Village’s success as a sustainable tourism model. Known for its cultural preservation and environmental efforts, Mopungchuket exemplifies community-driven tourism that combines heritage protection with eco-friendly practices.
“Sustainable tourism is essential for preserving our unique cultural and natural heritage for future generations,” remarked NTA president Vakha.
The program also highlighted training and job creation opportunities for local youth, aiming to reduce migration by fostering viable careers in tourism within the community.
NTA representatives expressed optimism that with increased government involvement, Nagaland could become a leading example of sustainable tourism in the Northeast.
Meanwhile, it was informed that Nagaland Tourism Association has planned to continue its advocacy for government investment in eco-friendly infrastructure, training programs, and community-empowering initiatives, working towards establishing Nagaland as a sustainable tourism destination known for its authentic cultural experiences and environmental stewardship.
