Global Naga Forum (GNF) on Saturday sought to “categorically” reject the “baseless allegation and false accusation” made by WC, NNPGs, which called GNF as “propped-up mouthpieces of IM,” IM’s “appendage,” while accusing GNF of “fuelling division” among the Nagas.
GNF through its media cell said it takes two things to heart about the Nagas: “One People, One Destiny,” which is its motto, and “advocating for Nagas the human right of political self-determination in our homeland.”
The forum said it does not believe Nagas need other people’s permission to live and govern themselves in their own lands. GNF said Nagas also do not need the unending imposition of the repressive military law (AFSPA) intruding into their day-to-day lives, which permits the armed forces to kill Nagas with “predictable regularity”, always “by mistaken identity,” without the fear of criminal prosecution.
Further, GNF said Nagas do not need Indian “security forces” curbing their freedom of movement in their homeland. The forum said Nagas also detest being fenced in and out of India in their own ancestral homeland in the name of India’s “national security.”
GNF said it was a global Naga body dedicated to the defence of human rights, some of whose members have contributed to the international discourse of human rights while others have devoted their lives to active advocacy for justice and human rights at home, in India, and other countries.
“Global Naga Forum would be remiss if it did not stand up for our own human right not to be falsely and publicly accused of being something or someone we are not,” GNF said and expressed hope that WC-NNPG would henceforth respect its right to truthful representation as fellow Nagas.
