The 26th Annual Varsity Sports Meet 2025 of the Nagaland University Students Union, Lumami (NUSU-L), commenced on March 12, at Dr. T. Ao Sports complex.

According to PRO NU Lumami, a significant highlight of the event was the speech by vice-chancellor of Nagaland University, Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, acknowledging the institution’s commitment to providing top-tier infrastructure for both academics and sports.

He emphasized that the institution has made significant efforts to ensure students have the best facilities to nurture their talents and skills. He noted that while substantial progress has been made, some do not fully utilize or appreciate the available infrastructure.

However, he assured that efforts would be made in the coming year to address these gaps, with a particular focus on the sports and administrative departments.

Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik officially declared the games open, setting the stage for a series of exhilarating sporting events in the coming days. Embracing the theme, “Ignite, Envision, Conquer,” the varsity sports meet inspires students to surpass their limits, and seize victory.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Chongkoi and Angnyei, with assistant cultural secretary NUSU-L, M. Ebibeni Ngullie, as the compere. The event commenced with an invocation by Prayer Secretary of AKTL, Tzubalung, followed by a welcome note by organizing secretary NUSU(L), Chopika N. Chopi.

The oath-taking was administered by Games and Sports Secretary, NUSU-L, Tinglet Konyak, which was followed by the torch relay and lighting of the flame, performed by house captains and the best athlete of 2024, symbolizing determination and commitment.
