Kohima Police has arrested an individual in connection with the alleged molestation of a 13-year-old girl in Lower Forest Colony, Kohima earlier last month. The accused, identified as one Meren, a driver employed in the Forest Department, reportedly assaulted the minor during the second week of April 2025.

According to a press note issued by the Additional SP and PRO of Kohima Police, the accused allegedly grabbed the victim’s private parts while she was working in a garden, prompting her to scream and flee the scene.

Following preliminary investigations, a team led by the Officer-in-Charge of Women Police Station, along with personnel from North Police Station, apprehended the accused from his residence on April 27 after receiving telephonic information. His statement was recorded, and he was placed in safe custody at North Police Station lock-up.

On April 28 at around 9:50 p.m. the victim’s grandmother submitted a written FIR, stating that the matter would be discussed with the colony chairman and requesting a temporary halt to legal proceedings.

Consequently, the accused was released on Personal Recognizance (PR) bond. However, a regular case was registered the following day, April 29, at around 6 p.m. under Section 74/75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 8 of the POCSO Act (Kohima Women PS Case No. 004/25).

The accused was subsequently forwarded to judicial custody as investigations continue.
Kohima Police has assured that all necessary legal procedures are being strictly followed and that the matter is being handled with the utmost seriousness. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
